Gabriela Valencia is a writer of poetry and nonfiction. Supported by the Tin House Workshop and the Robert Pinsky Global Fellowship in Poetry, her work appears or is forthcoming in Image Journal, Watershed Review, Volume, and Great Lakes Review among others. Her work has been longlisted for the Peter Porter Poetry Prize and made finalist for the CRAFT Hybrid Writing Contest and Orison’s Best Spiritual Literature Award in Nonfiction.
A proud daughter of Mexican immigrants to the Chicagoland area, Valencia graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a BA in English and Chemistry, coauthoring neuroscience research in the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research; and Language, Cognition, and Neuroscience. She received her MFA in Poetry from Boston University.
She lives in Nebraska with her husband Josh and their two herding dogs, Rainer and Zola.
